Our goal in the Kasimatis lab is to actively contribute to creating a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable scientific community. We believe that innovative and impactful science depends on the viewpoints and lived experiences of scientists and students from diverse backgrounds and identities. It also requires welcoming, respectful, and supportive environments within our labs, departments, and scientific societies.
To realize our goal of inclusivity, we will strive to create a safe, equitable, and collaborative environment for all lab members. The complete Kasimatis lab Statement of Values and Lab Expectations are available in our lab handbook. Please also see the Department of Biology’s Code of Conduct.
The University of Virginia is located on the traditional land of the Monacan Nation and was built by enslaved laborers. The University community must reckon with this long history of racism and exploitation. You can learn more about how the Department of Biology is recognizing the past and moving to make a more equitable and inclusive future on the DEI website.
